The Locavore Company Picnic
Every summer my husband’s firm, Gordian Group, has an outing in the Hamptons. And today was the day. Late morning the catering team showed up from The Seafood Shop to prep lunch for 40 people on huge flaming grills. And, by 1:30 the yard was teaming with waterlogged jet skiers nibbling on steamed mussels and crabcakes – our annual seafood-FEST had started!
The crabcakes were moist and flavorable with a hint of peppery spice, the mussels were served in a huge pot and cooked to perfection in beer and garlic. My favorite appetizers were raw little neck clams and boiled shrimp. For me lunch was TWO steamed local lobsters and an ear of local corn. Grilled marinated steak and chicken, pasta salad and platters of grilled local vegetables -- zucchini, eggplant, summer squash, peppers, red onions.
Rob, one of the VPs is always in charge of wine. Pop! Pop! Pop! Wines from all over the world -- California, Italy and Austrailia – but noooooo Long Island wine!!! Oh well, next year we'll have to taste some cabernet franc and chardonnay from around here. It could be fun to do a winery tour after lunch as there are so many just a few miles from our house.
